I’m here to help you in your search for a newborn photographer in Hertfordshire

Are you searching for a natural newborn photographer in Hertfordshire? I’m so glad you found me. I’m a newborn photographer based near Baldock in Hertfordshire. I take a gentle and nurturing approach to newborn photography, taking care to make sure you have a memorable and joy filled photography experience with me.

I’m blessed to photograph mothers in their journey to motherhood, from pregnancy and onwards; witnessing them bloom in mothering and their children grow. It’s such an honour to capture these precious memories.

Why did I choose newborn photography?

It all started with capturing my own babies. Previously a wedding photographer, now turned motherhood and newborn photographer with over 8 years experience in photographing love, emotion and connection. When I fell pregnant with my first daughter, I realised quickly just how fragile time was. With each day she would change, her expressions, her features, her tiny frog scrunch soon turned to longer little legs and before I knew it I had a toddler running around. It’s true what they say, time is a thief and babies don’t keep. Natural and lifestyle newborn photography is a way to preserve the memories held within this sacred & fleeting time, it’s a way to transport us back to when our children were so tiny, a way to remember how the weight of their tiny bodies felt on our chest, the way their head fitted in our palms, how dinky their toes were. It’s all so precious, and I’m here to capture it all in an authentic way.

Things to think about when looking for a newborn photographer

Firstly, choosing an experienced newborn photographer is so important. A professional who specialises in newborn photography will understand the importance of newborn baby photography safety and comforts when undertaking the session. It’s also so important that you have a joyful and memorable experience, visiting a newborn photography studio or welcoming a newborn photographer into your home in the very early days of parenthood might feel daunting. It’s important that you feel you’re in kind and gentle hands, with a photographer that also knows how to safely support you and your baby throughout your photography experience.

When is the best time to look for a newborn photographer?

Everyone plans differently, my advice would be to book a newborn photographer in at around your 20 week pregnancy scan. You can book a newborn photographer in for a floating date session a week after your due date. An experience newborn photographer will be flexible in their diary to accommodate a change in date when little one arrives should you need to. It’s important that everyone feels comfortable for when their newborn photography session will take place.

How much does a newborn photographer charge?

Here at Kim Rose Photography all session fees are listed on the website. Newborn photography studio sessions start at £395 and in home newborn photography sessions start at £495; what’s included is listed on the website too. Transparency about pricing is so important, in Hertfordshire you can expect to pay an experienced photographer between £400 - £900 depending on the optional additional collections you purchase. Most newborn photographers include a small number of digitals in their newborn photography session fee, and then give clients the choice to purchase more digitals, prints, frames and albums. Upon point of enquiry you are sent my full pricing list which includes optional digital and print packages to purchase after our time together, you can do this at your leisure online; some photographers might invite you back to their studio for a gallery viewing appointment. It’s important that you understand

How does booking a newborn photographer work?

When booking a newborn photographer, you can expect to receive a welcoming booking email enclosed with a contract, invoice and session guide to help you plan for your newborn photoshoot. A newborn photographer would require a deposit to secure your session in their diary, at Kim Rose Photography I take a £100 deposit which is deducted from your session fee and then the remaining balance is due the day of your session.

How to research for a newborn photographer

Pop your search into google, read their Google reviews, to gain some insight into first hand experience of previous clients. What do people say about working with that photographer? How did they make them feel? Take some time to read through the websites, find them on Instagram, get to know them a little better, perhaps book in a call. Look at the photographers portfolio work or journals of any newborn photographer you find whose work speaks to you.

A newborn photography session, at home or in a studio?

There is no right or wrong answer here, it’s important that you feel comfortable and relaxed throughout your newborn photoshoot. An experienced newborn photographer who’s confident with natural light, could come to your home and still create a studio like finish in the comfort of your house. Or you might prefer to go to a home from home newborn photography studio. Do what feels right for you. As a lifestyle photographer, Kim Rose Photography is experienced in both natural light settings in clients own homes, but also offers a beautiful natural light studio setting in Hertfordshire.

When is best to have a newborn photography session?

As an experienced newborn and baby photographer, I have had the joy of photographing babies of all stages, there is no right or wrong time. Don’t feel you cannot book a newborn or baby session for little ones that are older than the newborn stage; all stages are beautiful and worth of capturing. They will never be this tiny again. For newborn sessions the best time is during their first 3 weeks as they are still super sleepy, generally more settled and love to be swaddled. But all babies are different, there’s no expectation here and any age is so welcome.

If you’re expecting a baby in 2025, I’d love to hear from you and I can send you my newborn photography session guide or we can catch up over a cuppa. You can also read more about my newborn photography experience and my newborn photography studio space here
